The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
